How to Gift a Board Game

One of my favorite things to do at the store is to give recommendations when someone is looking for a gift. Here are some questions to ask yourself about the recipient of the gift.

How many people are available to play?

If you want your game to be enjoyed, you need to consider the context of the player. Do they have a sibling or spouse who likes board games? Would they prefer something they enjoy with their whole family? Are they more of an introvert who loves to lose themself in a thick book or thorny puzzle?

How complex should the game be?

We all know there are magazine/social media people, and there are thick-book people. There are reality show people, and there are intense sci-fi people. Same in the world of board games, there are players who enjoy quick-and-easy games that play many times, and others that prefer a game with lots of components and different paths to victory.
